Why cold process?
Because we believe it to be the BEST!
Cold process soap is long lasting as it does not get exposed to high heat levels and chemicals that can reduce the lifespan. Cold process soap contains oils and fats from plants and it has a much higher fat content than other soaps, which means that it's also rich and moisturizing!
Cold process soap requires patience. It needs several days to harden in the mold. Then, it needs to cure for 4-6 weeks to allow excess water to evaporate. Curing creates a firmer bar that lasts longer in the shower.
Cold processed soap is known for its silky smoothness. This comes mainly from the olive oil base, a luxury near impossible to find in commercial bars. Additionally, you can expect a rich lather, another benefit of using unadulterated veggie oils like coconut oil.
Hand crafting process.
What is Lye (sodium hydroxide) and is it really dangerous?
ALL soap is the result of a chemical reaction called the saponification process, that occurs between a lye solution and a fat or oil (such as Olive oil and Coconut oil). After the lye water and oils are combined, we pour soap into molds. It takes 24 hours for soap batter to saponify and enter the gel phase. Once removed from the soap mold, they dry for an additional 24 hours before being cut into individual bars of soap.
Cold processed soap, in particular, allows the lye mixture to be neutralized without any outside sources of heat, called “curing”. This is quite a time-consuming process that allows for gradual saponification. It can take 4-6 weeks for the soap to cure. The lack of heat keeps the essential oil/fragrance oil intact.
The Joyful Market believes in using only high-quality ingredients! Our soaping fats are only olive oil, coconut oil and castor oil. No palm oils here!
Poured into molds.
Our small batching allows us to carefully tend to each bar. Each batch creates only 36 bars of soap so get ‘em while they last because as the next step states, It’ll be 4 to 6 weeks until the next batch is ready!
Hand sliced.
After the initial curing period is complete, we remove the soap bricks from their molds and cut them to size. At this stage, the soap still bears a high water content so we let them dry for 4 to 6 weeks before use.
Each bar is then individually wrapped and ready to nourish your skin!
